We arrive in beautiful Sri Lanka where we connect to an exciting 35 minute flight on an amphibian aircraft directly from the airport to the south of the island.  Start the day off with yoga this morning, a leisurely breakfast and a morning at leisure before enjoying lunch.  This afternoon we spend quality time with a 5th generation resident of Galle on a privately guided tour of this World Heritage Site

we embark on our first safari which we undertake in customized safari vehicles guided by inspiring naturalists.  Yala National Park has a diverse ecology and includes lakes, scrubland and dense jungle and is considered one of the most wildlife rich National Parks in Sri Lanka.

Board the beautiful Viceroy Rail Carriage which has been refurbished with period fittings reflecting the 1920’s and completed by reclining seats with tables, fine dining and bar.  Enjoy one of the most scenic train rides in the world as you snake your way through the Ceylon Tea laden hills with lunch on board.

meet a famed local dance teacher who’s ancestors have been teaching traditional Kanydan dance & drumming for generations.  He will teach you the art of drumming and dance afterwhich he and his troupe will present a stunning private performance of this intricate local dance form.

The family host you for lunch today before heading to the home of the Sacred Tooth Relic, where you will discover the rituals of the poojah at the famous temple.


 

Anuradhapura

we commence our exploration of the spectacular 2 400 year old ruins of the sacred city of Anuradhapura, the 3rd century BC capital of Sri Lanka which was once one of the world’s grandest monastic cities.  We’ll see the magnificent bell-shaped Stupas (Dagobas), almost rivalling the great Pyramids of Egypt.  Tonight we are fortunate to experience a traditional Kamatha Dinner, a centuries old revered tradition in Sri Lanka.
